Manner Borne are committed to offsetting our carbon footprint by joining the Shell Drive Carbon Compensated Scheme. We will only use Shell fuel for all their fleet and Shell will purchase carbon credits the equivalent to the fleet’s emissions and issue us each year with a verified carbon reduction certificate.
Shell Drive Carbon Compensated Scheme
The way this scheme works is that by using Shell fuel, they compensate for our fleet’s unavoidable carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits from a carefully chosen portfolio of nature based projects. Shell keeps track of our overall fuel consumption and calculates the resulting CO2 emissions.
The nature-based projects
Shell works with a number of carefully selected nature-based projects in locations around the world, such as Peru and Indonesia. These projects help to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas, improve the livelihoods of local communities, and help to preserve biodiversity and wildlife. To ensure that the nature-based carbon credits have quality and integrity, they follow a robust programme of third party independent standards, registries and verification processes.
One example of who Shell work with is Peru’s Cordillera Azul National Park REDD+ project. It protects over 1.6 million hectares of threatened forest, which is the habitat to 28 species of high conservation value. Over 400 communities live inside this zone, including thirty indigenous communities – so the project helps to support 716 jobs, a third of which are held by women, as well as more than twenty sustainable enterprises and six community schools.
