Getting to Anfield on the Saturday
Liverpool against Nottingham Forest kicks off at half past twelve on Saturday 29 August, which places arrival squarely in the late morning window when the M62 is carrying both festival and general bank holiday traffic. Supporters travelling from Cheshire should allow substantially more time than a normal matchday, and setting out early is far better than arriving late. Anybody with a flight to catch on the Monday should treat the journey as considerably longer than usual, and anybody with flexibility should either travel very early or wait until the evening. Local Journeys Across the Weekend
It is not only the long journeys that are affected. Ordinary local travel across mid-Cheshire and Halton becomes markedly slower across the festival weekend, and journeys that normally take twenty minutes can take an hour on the Thursday afternoon and the Sunday evening. Residents with medical appointments, restaurant bookings or family commitments across the weekend should build that in. Where a journey is genuinely time-critical, setting out well ahead is the only reliable answer.
It is also worth noting that the weekend falls at the very end of the school holidays, which adds a final wave of family travel to everything else. Airports, motorways and coastal routes all carry that traffic alongside the festival and the football.
